Manage Solana Token Authorities

Complete guide to managing your Solana token authorities. Learn how to control mint authority, freeze authority, update authority, mint and burn tokens, and update metadata for your SPL and TOKEN_2022 tokens. Full control over your token lifecycle.

Overview

Solana tokens use an authority-based system where different authorities control different aspects of the token. These authorities can be transferred or revoked to change the token's behavior and characteristics. FreshCoins provides a comprehensive interface to manage all token authorities and perform token operations.

Supported Token Programs

All authority management features work with both the standard SPL Token Program and the newer TOKEN_2022 Program. The interface automatically detects which program your token uses.

Accessing Authority Management

To manage your Solana token authorities:

  1. 1

    Navigate to Manage Solana

Go to Manage Solana Token Authorities from the tools menu or your dashboard.

  2. 2

    Select an Operation

Choose from the available operations: Revoke Mint Authority, Revoke Freeze Authority, Make Token Immutable, Update Metadata, Mint Tokens, or Burn Tokens.

  3. 3

    Enter Token Address

Enter your token's mint address. The system will automatically detect the network (Mainnet, Devnet, or Testnet) and fetch all relevant token information.

Understanding Token Authorities

Solana tokens have three main types of authorities:

Mint Authority

Controls the ability to mint new tokens:

  • Can mint new tokens to any address
  • Can be transferred to another address
  • Can be revoked (makes supply fixed)

Freeze Authority

Controls the ability to freeze token accounts:

  • Can freeze/unfreeze token accounts
  • Can be transferred to another address
  • Can be revoked (prevents freezing)

Update Authority

Controls the ability to update token metadata:

  • Can update token metadata (name, symbol, logo)
  • Can be transferred to another address
  • Can be revoked (makes metadata immutable)

Available Operations

Manage Mint Authority

Control token supply by managing mint authority:

  • Revoke mint authority (makes supply fixed)
  • Transfer mint authority to another address

Manage Freeze Authority

Control account freezing capabilities:

  • Revoke freeze authority (prevents freezing)
  • Transfer freeze authority to another address

Make Token Immutable

Permanently lock token metadata:

  • Revoke update authority
  • Make metadata immutable (permanent)

Update Token Metadata

Modify token information:

  • Update name, symbol, logo, description
  • Manage social links and creators

Mint Tokens

Create new tokens and increase supply:

  • Mint tokens to any destination address
  • Auto-creates token accounts if needed
  • Free service fee

Burn Tokens

Permanently remove tokens from circulation:

  • Burn tokens from your token account
  • Reduces total supply permanently
  • Free service fee

Step-by-Step Guides

How to Revoke Mint Authority

  1. 1Navigate to Manage Mint Authority
  2. 2Select the correct Solana network (Mainnet, Devnet, or Testnet)
  3. 3Enter your token's mint address
  4. 4Click "Check token" to verify details
  5. 5Connect the wallet that holds the mint authority
  6. 6Click "Revoke Mint Authority" and confirm the transaction

Warning: Revoking mint authority is irreversible. Once revoked, no new tokens can ever be minted, making your token supply fixed forever.

How to Mint Tokens

  1. 1Navigate to Mint Tokens
  2. 2Enter your token's mint address
  3. 3Enter the destination wallet address (where tokens will be sent)
  4. 4Enter the amount of tokens to mint
  5. 5Connect the wallet that holds the mint authority
  6. 6Click "Mint Tokens" and confirm the transaction

Best Practices

Security

  • Always verify the mint address before performing any operation
  • Use hardware wallets for authority management operations
  • Double-check all addresses before confirming
  • Test operations on Devnet or Testnet first

Authority Management

  • Consider revoking all authorities for public tokens to increase trust and decentralization
  • Keep mint authority only if you need to mint more tokens later
  • Freeze authority is rarely needed for most public tokens
  • Revoking update authority makes your token metadata permanent and immutable

Service Fees

Authority Management Operations

Revoking or transferring authorities requires a small service fee (typically 0.05 SOL) in addition to network transaction fees. This fee helps maintain and improve the FreshCoins platform.

Token Operations

Minting and burning tokens are free- no service fees apply. You only pay the Solana network transaction fees.

Network Fees

All operations require SOL for transaction fees. Ensure you have sufficient SOL balance in your wallet before performing any operation.

Important Disclaimer

Authority revocation operations are irreversible. Once you revoke an authority (mint, freeze, or update), it cannot be restored. Always double-check all details before confirming any authority management action.

Token minting and burning operations are also permanent. Burned tokens cannot be recovered. Test all operations on Devnet or Testnet first if possible. Ensure you have sufficient SOL balance for transaction fees.
